New Information About Assassin’s Creed Valhalla From Commentary Trailer

Shortly after the cinematic reveal trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was shown, Ubisoft issued another video going over that very trailer breaking down scene by scene with Creative Director Ashraf Ismail and Narrative Director Darby McDevitt. To view the video in its entirely, see blow. Here’s the rundown of what we know:

  • The main protagonist’s name is Eivor.
  • Players can choose between male and female versions of Eivor.
  • The game begins in Norway, but eventually players will travel to parts of England.
  • England has many kingdoms and rulers, so it isn’t exactly known as England during this time period.
  • The game begins in 873 A.D.
  • Vikings being efficient settlers, starting settlements and growing them is one focus of the game.
  • Players must make their own choices on how to grow their settlement.
  • There are two types of gameplay bits revealed: raids and brutal battles.
  • Raids have vikings sail with their longships to seek areas, create a ruckus and loot.
  • Larger battles also a focus and meant to feel visceral.
  • Players can learn an ability to throw an ax in a deadly manner.
  • Dual-wielding also a big focus. So much so that players can even dual-wield two shields.
  • Certain “ring leaders” on the battlefield being tougher with a few weak points.
  • Team wants players to live the Viking fantasy world as a warrior, but still putting focus on traits in Assassin’s Creed universe to make it feel like an Assassin’s Creed game.
  • The hidden blade returns and for the first time is mounted on top of the arm instead of under.
  • One reason is because “Eivor believes it’s such a kick-ass weapon, why would you want to hide it from your enemies?”
  • Eivor earns the hidden blade through meeting the Assassins, although not knowing them beforehand. Eivor then starts working with them.
  • Will release Holiday 2020 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One Series X, Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
